Preventive Services

This is our “street and shelter” outreach program. Staff members enter homeless shelters identifying HIV+ women and their infected/affected dependents. Shelter Care Package is given at time of intake. Care Packages include toiletries, snacks, games (age specified), and some basic clothing (e.g. undergarments, socks, and slippers). Clients are linked to multi-lingual, peer operated support groups hosted by “Casa”. Medical and Supportive Case management services are provided, based on recommendations set forth by The AIDS Institute. Educational Seminars are held annually for clients, and cover numerous topics; secondary prevention, health and wellness, medication management, coping, disease management, entitlements and nutrition. Condom Distribution (with prevention literature) is done at homeless shelters and on numerous strolls throughout NYC, targeting sex workers. This program is grant and privately funded.
